Questions to Ask Your Family Halfway Through the Year

It’s hard to believe we’re already halfway through the year. Time really does fly, doesn’t it? That’s why this is the perfect moment to slow down for just a second, not to stress about goals or calendars, but to take stock of how your family is actually doing.

Are you living out your values together? Is your home reflecting what matters most? Here are just a few things to keep in mind of family questions to ask.

Why Ask Family Questions Mid-Year?

Mid-year family check-ins don’t have to be complicated. You don’t need a weekend retreat or a 10-point plan. Sometimes all it takes is a few thoughtful family questions to ask each other around the dinner table or during a quiet moment.

These kinds of questions help you see where you’ve grown, what challenges you’ve faced, and where God is leading your family next. They also help realign your home around the things that truly matter—faith, connection, purpose.

Family Questions to Ask Right Now

Here are a few meaningful questions to ask your family as you reflect together:

  • What has been a highlight of our year so far?
Celebrate the good stuff—God has been at work, even in the little things.
  • Where have we seen growth in our relationships?
Notice the ways you’ve supported one another and grown closer.
  • What challenges have we faced, and how did we get through them?
Talk about what’s been hard—and how God showed up in the middle of it.
  • How are we living out our values as a family on a daily basis?
Get honest about whether your actions reflect what you say matters most.
  • How can we better love and support each other moving forward?
Make space for new ideas, grace, and intentional connection.

These are powerful questions to ask your family not just once a year, but regularly. They create space for gratitude, honesty, and growth. If you're struggling to get the conversation started, use this family communication assessment tool before adding in these questions.

Make It a Habit

The goal isn’t perfection, but presence. Set aside monthly or quarterly time to ask these family questions. With consistency, they’ll become a natural habit—whether during meetings or in dedicated moments.

If you're looking for a tool to keep the conversation going with your family outside of questions to just ask, take a look at the Family Legacy Study. This is a course designed with your family in mind, that covers a range of topics such as God's purpose for your family, how to communication more effectively, defining your mission, vision, values and so much more!
