At Legacy Stone, we believe that a family vision statement will set your family on a biblical trajectory and path of success. Your vision statement isn’t just something written down. It holds true significance and a fundamental basis of a future aspiration for your family. How can a well-defined family vision statement be translated into everyday actions and experiences?
The true power of a family vision statement is revealed when it’s lived out. It will be a part of the decisions and relationships that define your home. So how can a well-defined family vision statement be translated into everyday actions and daily decisions?
Let’s explore practical strategies to bring your vision into everyday life.
Don’t just write your family vision statement just to eventually tuck it away in a drawer. Scripture tells us to keep God's Word before our eyes (Deuteronomy 6:6–9), and the same applies to the vision He’s led your family to create.
Example: Hang it somewhere you’ll see it often- on the fridge, in the hallway, or near the dinner table. Let it serve as a reminder of who you are and what God is calling your family to become.
Your family vision statement shouldn’t just collect dust. It needs to show up in the flow of real life. One simple way to keep it present is by using it during regular check-ins with your family. If you don’t have regular check-ins set in your schedule, take a minute to explore how you can integrate that into your lives here.
Example: Every Sunday night, have your family read your vision statement out loud before talking through your week together. It will keep you focused and filter your decisions with a clear lens of your purpose.
Jesus not only taught values, He modeled them. Likewise, one of the most powerful ways to live out your family vision statement is by looking for the opportunities of small, consistent traditions that reflect it.
Example: If your family feels called to reflect Christ’s love through hospitality, you could consider starting a simple tradition like a monthly Sunday supper. It could be as straightforward as inviting a different family or neighbor over each month to share a meal. This could be an opportunity to invest in time of fellowship and a gospel-centered community.
Think of your family vision statement as your daily roadmap, not just a pie-in-the-sky ideal. It should truly guide your day-to-day actions. Philippians 3:14 talks about pressing toward the “goal”. So set small, faith-driven goals that help you move toward your vision. Make them practical, trackable, and most importantly, built on God's truth.
Example: Say you decided that you all wanted to grow spiritually. You could start with a simple morning devotional, maybe dad can read through the devotion as mom makes breakfast for the family or someone reads through it on the ride to school. Track how you work through the devotion together and make it a goal to finish the devotion by the end of the year, semester or season.
Scripture is full of moments where God’s people pause to remember, reflect, and rejoice (Psalm 77:11; 1 Samuel 7:12). When your family hits a milestone that lines up with your vision, stop and celebrate. It’s not just about achievement—it’s about giving thanks for how God is shaping your family.
Example: Diving into a dedicated period of time in devotion or biblical work together will allow your family to reflect and continue to grow together.
Implementing your family vision statement doesn’t happen overnight. It takes time and thought, and the right tools to help you get there. That’s why we have the Legacy Stone Vision Resource Center.
