How Are You Keeping Family as a Value?

How Are You Keeping Family as a Value?

It’s the middle of the year and with that, comes a natural pause in the rhythm of life. Maybe you’ve lost sight of your family values. Maybe you’ve veered off course. Either way, this is the perfect moment to step back and ask: Are we living out what we say matters most? Do we truly view family as a value?

For many of us, family is the most important thing in life. But if we’re honest, we don’t always slow down long enough to ask what that really means. What does it look like to truly value family, not just as a relational reality, but as a spiritual purpose and calling?

At Legacy Stone, we believe that family is more than important, it’s essential. It’s not just something “you’re born into”. It’s a God-designed institution meant to carry biblical purpose from generation to generation.

A Generational Mandate

From the beginning, God created families with a purpose. In Genesis 12, God tells Abraham that “through you all the families of the earth will be blessed.” That promise didn’t stop with Abraham, it was intended to flow through his descendants. This wasn’t just about bloodline. It was about spiritual legacy. God’s vision has always been multi-generational.

Your family is part of that story.

We often think of legacy as something financial or tangible, but at its core, legacy is about family values passed down, faith lived out, and truth repeated in your lives. When you intentionally view family as a value, the way God does, you’re saying, “We’re not just here to survive together. We’re here to steward something eternal.”

Why Mid-Year Matters

Think of this 6 month marker as a moment to re-center not just on goals or calendars, but on what you’re becoming together. Are you focusing on family as a value? Are you shaping a culture in your home that’s founded on biblical principal and core values that are unique to your family’s design?

This is where family as a value needs to be a focus. Valuing family means recognizing that your home is one of the most powerful places for your legacy. So carve out the time, 6 months into your year, to do a status check on these questions.

Practical Ways to Reflect Right Now

As you step into a mid-year reflection, ask yourself:

  • Are we being intentional about our time together, or just drifting through busy schedules?
  • Is Scripture shaping the culture of our home—or is culture doing most of the shaping?
  • What do our habits reveal about what we actually value?
  • Are we thinking about legacy as something we build now—not just something we leave later?

These are growth questions, not guilt questions. God is gracious, and He meets us where we are. But He also calls us to more. When you treat family as a God-given responsibility, you can allow yourselves to step into even more of what God has for your family.

Moving Forward with Values

If you’ve never really articulated what your family is about - or what you want to pass on - it’s not too late. In fact, mid-year is a great time to revisit or renew your family’s mission, vision and values. What are you building? What does your home reflect to the world? Are you shaping a culture that will bless not just your kids, but your kids’ kids?

Take a second and utilize our mission, vision and value resources as you reflect and gauge where your family is at!

Win as a Family

At Legacy Stone, we’re passionate about helping families get clear on those answers. We believe your home is meant to carry weight for generations and we’re here to equip you to live that out.

So this is why we want to invite you to check out our free Winning as a Family course. This 3-part series is short, intentional and points you in all areas of your lives to win, succeed, and grow together in the process.

You don’t have to have it all figured out. But you do need to start with what matters most. And valuing family the way God does? That’s always a good place to begin again.
